Hospital Manager/Vet Technician

Nela

Nela Hunter

Nela joined our team in 2001. She is no stranger to animal care, having owned and worked with both small and large animals for many years, as well as having extensive work experience in the Veterinary industry.

Nela oversees the day to day operation of the hospital as well as performing technician duties. She loves to interact with clients and their pets and wants to ensure that your experience with us is gratifying. Should you ever have any questions or concerns Nela will always be willing to address them with you. 

Her passion is breeding and raising race bred Quarter horses at her farm.

Veterinary Technicians

Catherine Bertham

Catherine joined our staff in 2001. She started with us as our overnight pet care attendant and through training, good work ethic and compassion for clients and their pets is now a full time technician.

Catherine is knowledgeable on all aspects of nursing and will care for your pet from the exam room visit, routine treatments, X-rays, surgeries, dentistries, recuperation to follow-up and after care. Outside of work her love of pets is also very evident rescuing animals and providing them a new home. Catherine owns one bird, 4 cats and 2 dogs.

Ryan Hegarty

Ryan was hired by the hospital after successfully graduating from the Seneca college Veterinary Technician program. Ryan did his co-op placement with us and after his schooling was finished joined us on a part-time basis. Ryan also works at the Toronto Zoo during the spring and summer months. You will see Ryan when he takes your pet's history prior to seeing the veterinarian and he will also be caring for your pet in the treatment and hospital area from assisting the veterinarian to taking blood, placing IV catheters, preparing your pet for surgery and taking vitals during surgery to ensure your pet is safe at all times. Ryan is a very compassionate technician with your pet's safety and comfort in mind at all times. Outside of work Ryan loves to travel recently visiting Australia, Fiji and South Africa. Ryan has a special interest in exotic animals.

 

Veterinary Assistants

Kayan

Kayan Wong

Kayan joined our clinic in August of 2005 after graduating from Queens University with a BSc. She holds the position of Veterinary Assistant and has been cross trained to perform many duties in our hospital. You will be greeted by her at the reception desk or perhaps in the exam room taking your pets history and providing nursing care. Kayan is a very caring nurse and will nurture your pet while in hospital or boarding. Kayan is bilingual in English and Cantonese

 

Jennifer La

Jen joined our clinic in 2003 part time as she was finishing high-school. She continued to work here during her vacation time from university. Jen has just graduated with honours from the University of Guelph with a BSc degree in sciences and nutrition.

Jen is currently working full time at the hospital as receptionist and veterinary assistant. You can always rely on Jen to answer any questions regarding your pets records, your pets food and medications and your account.   

 

Co-ordinator

Allison

Allison Krause

Allison  has been co-ordinating our front reception area for over 12 years. She welcomes all pets warmly and is always willing to lend a sympathetic ear. Allison will answer your questions, address your concerns, book your appointments, relay messages to the doctors and certainly call you after your pet has had a hospital stay.

Jess

Jesica Chow

Jessica is currently working part-time as front co-ordinator. She has welcomed clients and their pets here since 2003. Jess is bilingual English/Cantonese and is now studying Mandarin to provide a more comprehensive service for our clients. Jess will help you set up appointments, explain charges, give you directions for your pets medications and fill in your insurance claim forms to name a few. Call Jess if you need any information on regarding our service or if you would like to book an appointment for your pet to see a doctor or for boarding accommodations.

Overnight Caregivers

Riane

At our hospital we provide care for all of pets after the day staff has gone home. We never leave our patients or boarded pets unattended. Our overnight and weekend caregivers must complete and excel at the American Boarding Kennel Association course and examination. They are also trained to care for sick and post surgical pets. During the night shift your pets whether in hospital or boarding are nurtured and given “tender loving care” by:

Vicki Fierheller

Vicki Fierheller is the groomer at Shear Purrfection who looks after the esthetics of all pets. She can be reached at her office in the back of our clinic by calling 905-305-6157.
